Manual centroamericano para la medición de carbono azul en manglares

The content of this manual is designed to provide technical staff from national and local governments and organizations with methodological recommendations based on international principles of good practice to fully quantify blue carbon stocks in mangroves (on the ground, under the ground, roots, regeneration, fallen wood, herbaceous). The manual first describes how to design an inventory and select the sample, then details the steps of the fieldwork from a practical perspective. In addition, it details the laboratory procedures needed to perform chemical analysis on soil and plant tissue samples from mangroves and devotes a section to describing the calculations to be made with the data collected.  It also develops a section on steps to model land use/cover in marine-coastal areas, before concluding by providing recommendations to facilitate the incorporation of blue carbon data into national processes. To illustrate these elements, we include examples from work in different parts of the region.

Manual de Buenas Prácticas sobre el uso sostenible de los Ecosistemas de Arrecifes de Coral y el desarrollo de la Pesquería

El presente documento contiene el Manual de Buenas Prácticas sobre el uso sostenible de los Ecosistemas de Arrecifes de Coral y el desarrollo de la Pesquería, que pretende ser  una herramienta de utilidad  para los montecristeños, considerando que su puesta en práctica protege la biodiversidad y salud del arrecife. Además, podrá servir de referencia multiplicadora a otras localidades de las zonas costeras de República Dominicana.

Este Manual está dirigido a: Pescadores, para que su actividad sea más rentable y más amigable con el ambiente; Intermediarios y Comerciantes, para que reciban un producto de mejor calidad; Comunidades, para aprovechar mejor los bienes y servicios de los ecosistemas costeros y marinos y a las Autoridades, para facilitar sus tareas de supervisión y apoyo en el cumplimiento de las normativas

A fin de contar con formatos y datos estandarizados en toda la región Centroamericana se presenta el siguiente manual donde se muestran formatos y tablas para reportar la información colectada referente al retiro de nasas, inventarios y muestreos biológicos sin menoscabo de los formatos o procedimientos que ya algunos países puedan tener establecidos.

Marine Biodiversity in the Caribbean: Regional Estimates and Distribution Patterns

This paper provides an analysis of the distribution patterns of marine biodiversity and summarizes the major activities of the Census of Marine Life program in the Caribbean region. The coastal Caribbean region is a large marine ecosystem (LME) characterized by coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrasses, but including other environments, such as sandy beaches and rocky shores. These tropical ecosystems incorporate a high diversity of associated flora and fauna, and the nations that border the Caribbean collectively encompass a major global marine biodiversity hot spot. We analyze the state of knowledge of marine biodiversity based on the geographic distribution of georeferenced species records and regional taxonomic lists.
