Workshop to Select Sites for CLME+ Biodiversity and Pollution Prevention Project
March 27, 2020
In February 2020, The Ocean Foundation was awarded a six-month consultancy from the UN Caribbean Biodiversity Program which is funded by the Caribbean Large Marine Ecosystem + Program. Through the consultancy, we will conduct a feasibility analysis of coastal habitat restoration and pollution reduction for the Caribbean. At the end of the process we will identify two sites in the region ideally suited for future habitat restoration and pollution reduction interventions based on information and criteria defined in existing literature and through conversations with experts. The habitat restoration component will include coral, mangrove, and seagrass restoration potential and a methodology to choose sites.
Following this feasibility analysis, we will hold a second workshop to create investment plans outlining the resources needed to implement the projects and finally to actually carry out the projects that we propose.
The workshop is intended to convene a first approach to the consultancy and to establish a panel of experts in coral, mangrove and seagrass restoration as well as pollution science to identify a set of scientifically proven indicators that will allow us to identify sites both methodically and objectively based on need and suitability.
We will send the agenda on Monday, please let us know your availability. We expect to work 11 am to 5 pm EST/ 9 am to 4 pm CST. This will be a virtual workshop, facilitated by The Ocean Foundation Team.
