Brief Description:
The project is supporting numerous activities in the CARICOM region in order to halt the serious impacts of un-adapted use of terrestrial and marine areas, as well as the impacts of climate change, on biodiversity, marine and coastal protected areas and their ecosystem services, including: a) improve negotiation and organisational skills of public and private interest groups, b) develop integrated coastal zone management, including the protection and rehabilitation of marine and coastal geo-ecosystems, c) linking the protection and sustainable use of terrestrial and marine geo-ecosystems, d) securing the drinking water supply and environmentally-friendly sewage disposal, and e) piloting of innovative approaches as well as up-scaling of the project’s best practices and those of other initiatives related with the promotion of partnerships with the private sector and gender equality. Specifically, is aimed to sustainably managed with sustainable financing mechanisms are implemented at least 5 MPA in the participating CARICOM states and integrating among others climate change and gender aspects; and to develop and passed Regional MPA Management Guidelines.

El proyecto apoya numerosas actividades en la región de CARICOM con el fin de detener los graves impactos del uso no adaptado de áreas terrestres y marinas, así como los impactos del cambio climático, sobre la biodiversidad, las áreas protegidas marinas y costeras y sus servicios ecosistémicos. incluyendo: a) mejorar las habilidades de negociación y organización de los grupos de interés públicos y privados, b) desarrollar la gestión integrada de las zonas costeras, incluida la protección y rehabilitación de los geo-ecosistemas marinos y costeros, c) vincular la protección y el uso sostenible de la geografía terrestre y marina -ecosistemas, d) asegurar el suministro de agua potable y la eliminación de aguas residuales respetuosas con el medio ambiente, y e) la puesta a prueba de enfoques innovadores y la ampliación de las mejores prácticas del proyecto y las de otras iniciativas relacionadas con la promoción de asociaciones con el sector privado e igualdad de género. Específicamente, se apunta a gestionar de manera sostenible con mecanismos de financiamiento sostenible que se implementen al menos 5 AMP en los estados participantes de CARICOM e integrando entre otros aspectos de cambio climático y género; y desarrollar y aprobar Pautas Regionales de Manejo de AMP.
