    Increasing the climate change resilience and public awareness of the Pointe Sable Environmental Protection Area and Pigeon Island National Landmark ecosystems


Brief Description:
The project is aimed to enhance the climate resilience of targeted ecosystems within the Pointe Sable Environmental Protection Area (PSEPA) and Pigeon Island National Landmark by strengthening the coastlines and improving the management and health of coastal ecosystems. Through this project it is expected to conduct several activities including: a) mangrove and coral reef assessments and rehabilitation plan, ecosystem valuation and rehabilitation works; b) conduct a coastal stabilisation study and recommendations for the PSEPA, along with building grey Infrastructure to reduce negative impacts on coastal resources and reduce soil erosion and sedimentation run-off; and d) increase public awareness and outreach for civil society on the importance of ecosystems in promoting climate resilience including the education of resource users to pursue alternative livelihoods, among other topics.

El proyecto tiene como objetivo mejorar la resiliencia clim谩tica de los ecosistemas en el 脕rea de Protecci贸n Ambiental de Pointe Sable (PSEPA) y el Monumento Nacional de Pigeon Island mediante el fortalecimiento de las costas y el mejoramiento de la gesti贸n y la salud de los ecosistemas costeros. A trav茅s de este proyecto se espera realizar varias actividades que incluyen: a) evaluaciones y plan de rehabilitaci贸n de manglares y arrecifes de coral, trabajos de valoraci贸n y rehabilitaci贸n de ecosistemas; b) un estudio de estabilizaci贸n costera y recomendaciones para el PSEPA, junto con la construcci贸n de infraestructura gris para reducir los impactos negativos sobre los recursos costeros y reducir la erosi贸n del suelo y la escorrent铆a de sedimentaci贸n; y c) aumentar la conciencia p煤blica y el alcance de la sociedad civil sobre la importancia de los ecosistemas en la promoci贸n de la resiliencia clim谩tica, incluida la educaci贸n de los usuarios de los recursos para buscar medios de vida alternativos, entre otros temas.
